The Origins of Abhidhamma

The Abhidhamma, compiled after the Buddha’s Parinibbāna, systematizes his teachings into a philosophical framework. Tradition holds that the Buddha taught its core principles to deities, later elaborated by senior monks like Ven. Sāriputta. Preserved orally and written down in the 1st century BCE, it remains essential for deep meditation and insight in Theravāda Buddhism.
