Preserving Wisdom

The Pitaka Library is a digital initiative focused on preserving and sharing the sacred teachings of Theravāda Buddhism. We aim to make the entire Tipiṭaka available in both Pāli and Burmese, within a respectful and user-friendly platform. This library was created to safeguard timeless wisdom and ensure its transmission to future generations.

About Pitaka Library

Monks, I have taught the Dhamma without making a distinction between inner and outer; the Tathagata has no teacher’s fist regarding doctrines. Mahāparinibbāna Sutta (DN 16)

The Pitaka Library was founded with a clear purpose: to preserve the sacred teachings of Theravāda Buddhism and make them freely accessible to all. In an age where physical scriptures are at risk of being lost or damaged, this digital initiative was born to protect and share the timeless Dhamma for generations to come.

Our vision is to create a reliable, respectful, and user-friendly online space for Buddhist texts. The primary goals are:

  • Preservation of the complete Tipiṭaka in digital format
  • Access to both Pāli and Burmese translations for laypeople, monks, and scholars
  • Education through features that help users understand and explore the Dhamma more deeply

This library is developed and maintained by the Abhidhamma Society, a group of volunteers and practitioners dedicated to the dissemination and preservation of Theravāda teachings. Their continuous support ensures the platform remains updated and trustworthy.

Acknowledgments

We extend our gratitude to the scholars, translators, and donors whose dedicated efforts made this digitization possible.

The Pitaka Library runs on an open-source, mobile-friendly platform designed for speed and simplicity. Texts are fully searchable, and advanced tools allow users to navigate the Tipiṭaka with ease. Our technical team continues to refine the platform using the latest web technologies.

We aim to expand the library to include audio readings, commentary texts (Aṭṭhakathā), and study guides. Multilingual support and community translation projects are also in development.
